Last-minute tips for smashing your Welcome Week campaign

Time is ticking – Welcome Week is almost here! Here are some last-minute tips that will help you boost your engagement with students during this key student event.

Tip 1: Get posting on social media

We’ve said it before, but social media really is one of the most effective ways to reach Gen Z – especially during key student events like Welcome Week. But, as content experts themselves, it’s important that you implement ways in which you can stand out above the crowd.

Instagram carousels showcasing different looks, makeup tutorials, or ways your products can be used are a great method to entice those looking for some key Welcome Week purchases. Alternatively, tapping into how a student will be feeling this close to starting university is another way you can show Gen Zs that your brand cares and is relevant to students. Recruiting real-life student influencers or graduates to talk through their experience of starting university via Instagram live or through TikTok videos will instantly present your brand as student-facing.

And let’s not forget YouTube. 84% of Aussie students use this platform at least once a month – that’s more than any other social media platform. Of course, YouTube is the home of content creators and influencers, so it’s definitely worth considering how they could help promote your brand to their Gen Z following.

Tip 2: Limited-time offers

For those who still have a few last-minute purchases to make, or for international students who are waiting to make all their Welcome Week purchases upon arrival to Australia, limited-time student discounts will no doubt make a big impression on financially-savvy students.

By providing limited-time offers, you create a sense of urgency that students won’t be able to resist. Be sure to promote your offers with social media ads, in newsletters and via your website to spread the word across new and returning customers.

Tip 3: Launch a competition

There’s nothing like a good bit of competition to make things exciting! Incentivising students by giving them a chance to win a prize is likely to increase your Gen Z social media following, newsletter sign-ups (if you have one) and the number of student customers on your database.

Prizes could include credit to spend online or instore, a best-selling product from your brand, or, if you’re a food or activities brand, vouchers for students to use during their first semester at university. Whatever the prize, we recommend offering a number of extra entries to those who purchase from your brand online while the competition is running – that way students will feel more inclined to press ‘buy now’ while browsing your site.

Tip 4: Get on-campus

Another last minute tip for making the most of Welcome Week 2022 is to get brand-reps on-campus at the beginning of semester.

Gen Z might be digital natives, but in-person interaction with a brand certainly doesn’t go amiss as far as they’re concerned – especially if there’s fun freebies and giveaways involved! You can make the experience all the more fun by playing some music and live streaming the event on your socials for maximum coverage.
